Week One

After one week - not a big fan of teaching. It is true what they say ... London kids are are pretty much animals. Not all of them - but the ones that are good are completely drowned out by the others. We've even been to pretty nice schools - doesn't matter! They know when a supply teacher walks in that there are no real consequences to their behaviour that day.  In London, I am a mean teacher who yells. I keep telling the kids they are turning me into a witch and that is why my hair is slightly green.

On the bright side, after the day is done (which seems to last 48 entire hours) I have made £120! This week I have been booked 4.5 days so my November rent is almost paid! We were worried on Monday morning that we'd get one day a week. So my voice might be wry, my hair might fall out ... but I will be able to pay my rent and student loans!

We haven't done much sightseeing this week. Really not at all. We went to the dinner special near our house at the Heathcote Arms - my first fish and chips since Sundays in the early 90's watching Polka Dot Door. These were a bit better! Except we had to hoard the small packets of tartar sauce from the bar. I think the bartender was a bit disgusted. I can't really explain it since I hate mayonnaise, mustard, and relish ... but I can't imagine eating the fish without the tartar sauce!

Thanksgiving weekend should be pretty fun. We are invited to a Thanksgiving potluck with some Canadians in South London (Bev went to undergrad with one of them) and another dinner Monday night at the Maple Leaf, a bar in Covent Gardens downtown. Hopefully it will distract from the fact that we are so far from home! But it's come so fast it doesn't really feel like there should already be a holiday.
