Safe & Sound ... and Hot.

It is still so vivid in my mind. Laurie and I being sensible about my packing and confidently throwing away summer dresses, shorts, and other items I would certainly not be needing in rainy, chilly, London.

Now, I refuse to complain. And we're trying not to take the 28+ weather every day for granted. But - it's freaking hot!! I looked like an absolute fool getting off the airplane carting my rain jacket, umbrella, and sweater.

Back of Ol' Bucky - 29 degrees!

Aside from the surprise weather - which really is stunning - we have been acting 100% like tourists and loving every second of it. So far we have seen all of the main sites I think - including an amazing tour of Buckingham Palace that only happens mid-July through September. We thought we were going to be hustled into a room to gawk at Kate's wedding dress for 15 minutes but actually were led through most of the Queen's state rooms, ball rooms, and hallways filled with artwork for well over an hour. And our tickets have been validated so if you come visit when it opens we can go back for free :)

Early in the week we sorted out all of our employment info. Everything is a go so we just have to make sure we are ready at 7:15am Monday morning in case they have some work for us! Our consultant Jack said that work is picking up and we should expect at least a couple of days of work next week. Better continue to pick up if we are going to stay!!

Additional Move-in expenses:
  • ASDA for bedding - pillows, duvet, duvet cover - and cleaning supplies £30
  • Primark for towels £15
  • Vodaphone to hook up the Ol' Iphy £30
  • TKMaxx hastily to purchase a flat iron that works (and pillows that don't kill my neck) £50
  • B&Q for a bedside lamp, fan, and mirror £40
  • ASDA for first grocery shop £60
Now the wallet must close indefinitely. First pay check will be October 14th. Fortunately, we have found that everything here, except the subway, taxis, and RENT (ouch!) are much cheaper than in Canada. Now that we are settled we are going to stay away from eating out and be as sensible as 26-year olds can be about going out for drinks :)

London Eye - we decided more fun to look at than actually ride (thanks Johnny!)

Next post when I'm actually employed! Keep your fingers crossed that I made the right career choice.
